3 Steps To Relieve Your Painful Period

Imagine it’s Monday morning, it’s the first day of your period and your boss says to you “Go home and rest! Take this first day of your period for you.”

How would you feel?

How do you think all women would feel?

It’s 2012 and human evolution has come a long way…

However, we are still overall living generally in the taboo around our bodies, our periods, our sexuality.

That said, we are also at the brink of a major shift that has begun!

Women are waking up their curiosity and taking back their periods!

In the mean time, since so many continue to suffer with painful periods, here are 3 steps I offer to help relieve the pain.

These steps are intended for you to:

Get empowered.

Create connection.

Release with ease.

Step 1.) 

YOUR BODY: Stand in an upright position with your feet well grounded, and your hands on your hips.

Close your eyes and take a couple of deep breaths. Open your eyes and begin to spiral and rotate your hips while keeping the knees soft and slightly bent. Continue going in one direction slowly, creating a slight trance effect.

Your body holds cellular memory. Contemplate on any negative thoughts and feelings that you hold in your body that do not serve you.

Practice this exercise to prepare for what needs to be released during your upcoming period.

The spiral motion has been used since ancient times and it is a very intuitive motion for women

Step 2.)

YOUR MIND: Relaxing the mind, relaxes the body.

This is a very powerful affirmation to use on Day 1 of your period, typically when pain and cramps are most intense.

Lie down flat on your back and on your bed. Place one hand over your heart and one hand over your womb.

Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths if possible.

Start to soften your breathing and repeat to yourself in silence “ Thank you for being gentle with me.”

Continue repeating the affirmation or mantra to yourself, breathing into your womb. You can also play soft relaxing music in the background to create the state of being.

Step 3.)

YOUR SOUL: Your menstrual cycle is the gateway to the feminine divine

It is in our very nature to be in flow and harmony with our monthly cycle, and the feminine life cycle itself that starts with our period. This is our rite of passage into womanhood.

We as women are creative beings. Explore your creativity and seek out the pleasure in it. Once you’ve found it, dial up the pleasure and enjoyment!

This might mean drawing, painting, dancing, writing poetry, or even cooking up a new recipe!

But allow for your creative energy to flow freely….

While it might seem counter intuitive to put  these practices into place before the onset of your period, one aspect of the pain signals a lack of awareness and preparation for the time of menses.
